Pakiramdam ni Amanda, hindi siya talaga tatantanan ng kanyang amo hangga’t hindi mawala ang kanyang bilbil at lumiit ang kanyang tiyan.

Kamakailan ay hinikayat pa siya ng kanyang among babae na maglakad siya araw-araw pagkatapos ng kanyang trabaho para lumiit ang kanyang tiyan.

Sasamahan pa daw siya nito, at bibigyan siya ng $100 kada linggo, o $400 bawat buwan, kapag ginawa niya ito.



Giit naman lagi ni Amanda na ganyan talaga ang pangangatyawan ng miyembro ng kanyang pamilya, mataba at malaki ang tiyan. 

Pero ayaw ito tanggapin ng kanyang amo, at sinabing hindi puwede na ganoon kalaki ang kanyang tiyan.



Sa isip naman ni Amanda, paano na kanyang masarap na pagtulog at meryenda kung maglalakad siya pagkatapos ng kanyang trabaho?

Sa ngayon ay hindi pa malinaw kung sino sa kanila ng kanyang amo ang magwawagi sa kantyawan.



Si Amanda ay 21 taon nang naninilbihan sa mag- asawang Intsik sa Happy Valley.

Ang kanyang alagang babae ay malaki na at kakatapos lang ng kurso na veterinary medicine sa kolehiyo.

Nagulat siya nang sumangayon agad ang amo

Kamakailan ay sumapi si Renita sa isang grupo ng mga Pilipino dito sa Hongkong. Nagsawa na kasi siyang maupo sa parke at manood maghapon ng Korean telenovela sa kanyang telepono kapag araw ng kanyang pahinga.

Naging masaya naman siya sa bagong grupo at naging lubhang abala lalo na sa buwan ng Disyembre.

Dahil dito ay nagkaproblema siya dahil kailangan niya ng mas mahabang oras sa labas, at malamang na sumabit siya sa kanyang curfew na alas otso ng gabi. May mga kawanggawa ang grupo at kailangan nila ang kanyang tulong.



Dahil maganda naman ang kanyang rason ay inisip niyang magpaaalam sa amo na gagabihin siya ng uwi sa buong buwan ng Disyembre.

Kailangan lang niya ng tiyempo para makausap ang amo nang masinsinan.



Bago sumapit ang Disyembre, araw ng Sabado ay nilakasan na niya ang loob niya. Nilinis muna niya nang maigi ang kusina bago nagpaalam sa amo.



Ganoon na lang ang pagluwag ng dibdib niya nang agad na pumayag ang among babae, at sinabi pa ang. “I want you to be happy because you are a good person and good to us. Enjoy and have fun with your friends on your off.”

Tuwang tuwa si Renita dahil sa wakas ay mas mahaba na ang kanyang oras na makapag enjoy kasama ang grupo at mga kaibigan sa buwan ng kapaskuhan.



Nagpapasalamat din siya dahil naunawaan ng mga amo na ang kapaskuhan ang pinakamahalagang panahon sa buhay ng mga Pilipino.

3 tourists arrested after using allegedly fake documents

Three Filipino tourists have found out the consequences of using alleged fake employment papers to open savings accounts in Hong Kong banks: They have been arrested, detained and are now facing charges of “using a false instrument”.

Magistrate Peter Law set their next hearing at Eastern Court for Feb 19 and ordered the three defendants -- Enrique Vargas, Ryan S. Ilustrisimo and Maureen M. Gutierrez -- remanded in custody after the prosecution opposed their bail applications.

The new date was set after their court-appointed lawyers appeared on Jan 7 and asked for a six-week adjournment of the case for further investigation and legal advice.



In their previous court appearance on Nov 26, the hearing of their case was delayed because no lawyer came to represent them.

Court documents show the three arrived as tourists on Oct. 9. The next day they were arrested when they tried to open individual savings accounts in a Bank of China branch in Admiralty.



But earlier that day, they had successfully opened accounts at a Standard Chartered Bank branch in the area.

The three allegedly presented copies of their purported work contracts to BOC staff as proof that they were locally employed by a Hong Kong man.



The bank staff told them to return with the original contracts, but when they did, police were already waiting for them. It turned out the staff had tried to verify the employer’s name and address but found these to be spurious.

A source at the Consulate said the case appears to be a new scam operated by a money laundering syndicate with a Hong Kong connection.



One of the defendants’ relatives who attended the Nov 26 hearing said her cousin replied to an advertised offer on Facebook of a free trip to Hong Kong.

He and the two other defendants were reportedly selected and briefed by two Filipino men about their trip.

The two Filipino handlers reportedly escorted the three defendants to Hong Kong and to the two bank branches but slipped away before the police arrived at the BOC branch.

Human trafficking tinalakay

Ang human trafficking ay ang paglilipat-lipat ng mga tao sa iba-ibang lugar para sila pagkakakitaan o gamitin sa ilegal na paraan.

Ayon kay Labor Attache Jalilo dela Torre, ang human trafficking ay pangalawa lamang sa narcotics o drugs pagdating sa usapin tungkol sa pinaka-seryosong problema na kinaharap ng mga manggagawa sa buong mundo.



Isang magandang halimbawa dito ang naging palasak na problema ng pagdadala ng mga manggagawang Pilipino sa mga bansa katulad ng Russia at Turkey kung saan nagtatrabaho sila ng walang kaukulang visa o pahintulot sa pamahalaan doon.

Dahil ilegal ang kanilang ginagawang trabaho mas madali silang mabiktima ng mga sindikato.




Binanggit ni Labatt dela Torre ang kaso ng isang mag-asawang recruiter na pumupunta dati sa Hong Kong para mang-engganyo sa mga domestic worker dito na lumipat sa Russia kahit walang akmang trabaho na naghihintay sa kanila doon.

Kumikita ng malaking halaga ang mag-asawa – na ang babae ay Pilipina at ang lalaki ay Pakistani – sa bawa't Pilipina na nayayakag nilang makipagsapalaran sa Russia.



Sa tulong ng The SUN, nagawa niyang ilantad ang ilegal na operasyon ng mag-asawa at natigil ang pangangalakal nila sa mga Pilipinang manggagawa sa Hong Kong.

Sa sex trafficking pa lang o prostitution, kumikita na daw ang mga sindikato ng US$99 billion taon-taon.



Idagdag pa rito ang tubo nila sa “forced labor” o “domestic servitude”, o ang pilit na pagpapatrabaho sa mga migrante sa hindi makatarungang paraan, at hindi na kailangang magtaka pa kung bakit naging isang malaking pasakit ito sa mga manggagawa sa buong mundo.

Ayon pa kay Labatt dela Torre, hindi importante kung pumayag o hindi ang isang manggagawa sa pinapagawa sa kanyang ilegal na bagay. Sa ilalim diumano ng batas ng Pilipinas, na ibinatay sa tinatawaga ng Palermo Protocol, hindi maaring gamitin ang “consent” o pagpayag ng isang biktima para mapawalang sala ang mga human trafficker.

Record turnout for Pangasinan group’s 2nd anniversary

The ULPA officers take their oath of office before Provincial legal counsel Geraldine Baniqued.

They may have been crushed by the failure of their special guests from Manila to attend their much-anticipated event, but members of United Lakas Pangasinan Alliance Hong Kong (ULPA-HK) did not let it spoil their fun.

More than 100 people gathered to eat, sing, dance and be merry as ULPA celebrated its second founding anniversary at Edinburgh Place in Central on Jan. 13. The gathering was also held to mark the birthday of the group’s chairman, Raymund Perez, and two other officers.



Sorely missed were special guests, Rep. Amado T. Espino, Jr (5th district, Pangasinan) and his son, Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino III, but as their representatives explained, the two officials had to join a Unity Walk by all elected leaders of the province.

Provincial legal counsel Geraldine Baniqued announced that the provincial government was donating Php40,000 to ULPA, but quickly added that it was not meant to make up for the failure of the two officials to attend the event. She promised that the two officials would visit the group sometime in the near future.



Baniqued also disclosed several projects of the provincial government, like the “zero balance” policy at public hospitals, which refers to writing off the unpaid bills of indigent patients.

The governor’s chief of staff, Mike Morden, also spoke of the free dialysis offered by the provincial government to its ailing constituents, plus a scholarship project for poor but deserving students which he encouraged ULPA members to look into.

The provincial officers later administered the oath of office to ULPA’s newly appointed officers led by Perez, president Juanito Dingle and vice president Romeo Espiritu.



In his speech, Perez emphasized the group’s main function, which is to extend help to needy members and fellow migrant workers.

Dingle spoke of the need to keep unity within the group, and with fellow Pangasinenses.

Another special guest, lawyer Daisy CL Mandap, editor of The SUN, lauded the group’s effort to form the biggest group of Pangasinenses in Hong Kong, and its success in holding a well-attended and well-organized event.



But she called on group members to keep themselves always informed, especially about events and issues that affect foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong.
