A domestic helper was jailed for nine months today after she pleaded guilty at Kowloon City Court to two counts of theft.
Gracelyn Simbre, 41, was actually meted nine months’ jail
for each offence -- a violation of section 9 of the Theft Ordinance -- but Deputy
Magistrate Arthur Hong ordered that the two sentences run at the same time.

The second charge arose from the theft of a pair of gold
earrings and two gold bracelets worth a total of $23,000 from the same place
last April 28.
Meanwhile, at the Shatin Court, a rape case against Alden John Apayat was transferred to Eastern Magistracy for committal proceedings to the High Court.
Apayat was told to appear on Dec. 19 at the new venue as he was released on bail of $50,000 with conditions, plus $15,000 surety.
