The Immigration Department repatriated a total of 22 Vietnamese illegal immigrants on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
They comprised nine men and 13 women, all of whom
filed for non-refoulement but were unable to substantiate their claims.

Among them were discharged prisoners.
Immigration said in a statement following the operation
that it remains committed to promptly removing unsubstantiated non-refoulement
claimants from Hong Kong to maintain effective immigration control and
safeguard public interest.

Under the updated removal policy which took effect
on December 7, 2022, Immigration may as a matter of practice proceed with the
removal of a claimant whose application for a judicial review has been
dismissed by the High Court.

The same policy applies to the removal of
overstayers from Hong Kong as soon as practicable.
