Two domestic helpers are facing charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and criminal damage at Eastern Court on police complaint after investigating their heated confrontation with a fellow Filipina.
Joana Marie Cuenca, 30 years old, and Baby May Cabillon, 40,
appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Tsui last Friday (March 8), accused of
ganging up on Luna Magbanua, in Harcourt Garden on July 9, 2023, a Sunday.

Harcourt Garden is a park located between United Centre, the
building that houses the Philippine Consulate, and the Hong Kong Police
headquarters in Admiralty.
It is popular among many Filipinos spending their Sundays
off.

The alleged assault resulted in injuries to Magbanua, which is
punishable under the Offences against the Person Ordinance, the police
complaint said. Section 39 of this law prescribes a maximum penalty of three
years in jail.
Police also accused the two of causing damage to Magbanua’s
necklace and hangbag, which is defined as an offense by Section 60(1) of the
Crimes Ordinance.

Prosecution asked for adjournment, and Magistrate Tsui scheduled
the next hearing for April 19.
The two were freed on $500 bail.
