A Filipina domestic helper was returned to jail today after appearing in court, charged with stealing her employer’s jewelry worth more than $100,000, while another was set free on bail after being charged with stealing her employer’s suitcase.
Both were charged in separate courts with violation of
section 9 of the Theft Ordinance.
Maria Teresa Nunez, 44 years old, was accused at the West
Kowloon Court of stealing one “Mabelle” diamond ring, one diamond necklace, one
diamond ring, one gold necklace, one gold pendant, a pair of gold bangles, one
gold medal and a gold bracelet, with a total value of $105,000.

The theft occurred last Dec. 19 at her employer Li Oi Min’s
flat in Luk Yeung Sun Chuen, on Wai Tsuen Road, Tsuen Wan in the New Territories,
according to the complaint filed by the Tsuen Wan Police.
Principal Magistrate Don So scheduled Nunez’s next hearing for Jan. 25. He also ordered her held in custody until then.

Erlinda Dreo, on the other hand, was freed on bail of $500 in Shatin Court.
Dreo, 41 years old, is accused of stealing her employer
Monica Hong Yik Man’s suitcase valued at $1,099 “on an unknown date between 01st
day of February 2023 and 14th day of September 2023” in a house in
Woodcrest Hill in Tai Po, according to the complaint filed by Shatin Police.
Acting Principal Magistrate Amy Chan scheduled
the resumption of her case for Feb. 15.
