A Filipina has pleaded not guilty to stealing money over an 18-month period from a restaurant she worked for, setting the stage for a one-day trial in which prosecutors will present three witnesses and documents to prove their case.

Ofelia Jeans, 35 years old, is accused of stealing $83,976.60 in cash from Le Colonial, located on Paterson St., Causeway Bay from March 14, 2021 to Sept. 13, 2022.

In a hearing on Nov. 1 at Eastern Court, Jeans’ duty lawyer said that if prosecution would present as evidence a promissory note which contains a confession, he will question its accuracy.

The lawyer said he will also challenge the accuracy of the testimonies of two of the witnesses being lined up against her.

He asserted that the issue in dispute is whether or not she stole the money.

Magistrate Minnie Wat set the trial for Dec. 1.

She advised Jeans to stay in touch with her lawyer so she will be prepared for the trial.
