The court heard that Villaremo had rushed to the
playground to help Miranda who was then being ganged up on by a group of Filipino and
Chinese males.
Initially, Villaremo had indicated to the court that
he wanted to plead guilty to the charge but Magistrate Jason Wan told him to
seek help from the Duty Lawyer Service as he was not assisted by counsel.

Villaremo changed his mind and pleaded not guilty to the charge, resulting in
him being put on trial in September.
