“Hidden Narratives: Portraits of Resilience in Hong Kong’s
Migrant Domestic Helper Community” is a collection of pictures taken by photographer and educator Gretchen So.
The exhibit opened on Aug. 20 and will run until Sept. 24 at the Lumenvisum,
L2-02, JCCAC, 30 Pak Tun St., Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon. It is open from Tuesday to
Sunday, 11am-1pm and 2-6pm. Guided tours can be arranged by calling 3177-9159.
“This exhibition
sheds light on the invaluable contributions and stories of the Indonesian and
Filipino helpers within our community,” So said.
“The media is often focused on the struggles of domestic
helpers but I wanted to capture this wonderful community during their fun,
leisure times with photos that are vivid and pulsating with energy,” she added.
“Through ‘Hidden Narratives’, I seek to highlight their unique
experiences, their challenges, and their aspirations, ultimately fostering a
deeper understanding and appreciation of their role in our society."
