Police found the man on a terrace in Grand Panorama on Robinson Road, Mid-Levels |
A man who fell to his death while cleaning windows at about noon today, Thursday, was a local resident from the Mainland and not a domestic helper, the police said tonight.
“No, he’s not a domestic helper or a Filipino, he’s
a resident from the mainland,” a police spokeswoman told The SUN in a phone
inquiry.

Earlier reports said the police received a call at
around 12:25 pm today from a resident of the Grand Panorama at 10 Robinson
Road, Mid-Levels, saying that the windows of their unit had been damaged. They
suspected that their domestic helper had fallen while cleaning windows.
Police and rescuers who responded to the call did
not find the man on the ground beside the building, but on a terrace. They
declared him dead on the spot.

Officers covered the man’s body and cordoned off the
area until the remains could be taken away. An investigation into the incident
is ongoing.
The death sparked interest in the Filipino
community, as it came just over two months after a Filipina fell to her death
while cleaning the windows of her
employer’s flat in Cheung Sha Wan.

The 35-year-old Filipina was certified dead after
being found lying on a platform in Manhattan Hill on Po Lun Street.
An inquiry by the Department of Migrant Workers
showed that while the heirs of the deceased helper could file a claim under the
Employee Compensation Ordinance, her
employer could not be held criminally liable for the accident.
