Raids on 96 establishments for four days until yesterday (July
6) netted 17 suspected illegal workers and two employers, the Immigration
Department (ImmD) reported today.
Immigration said the arrests were made during its
territory-wide anti-illegal worker operations codenamed "Lightshadow"
and "Twilight", and joint operation with the Hong Kong Police Force
codenamed "Windsand".
Immigration Task Force officers arrested 15 suspected
illegal workers and two suspected employers when they raided 96 locations, including
a garage, industrial buildings, premises under renovation, a recycling yard,
residential buildings, restaurants, retail shops and a vegetable stall.
Those suspected of doing illegal work comprised three men and 12 women,
aged 27 to 54. Among them, one man and two women were holders of recognisance
forms, which prohibit them from taking any employment. One woman was suspected
of using and being in possession of forged Hong Kong identity card.
Two women, aged 33 and 45, were also arrested for employing
the illegal workers.
The two other arrests were made during operation
"Windsand" with the help of police.
Two men who were Mainland visitors, aged 40 and 46, were
arrested for breaching their condition of stay by being involved in suspected
illegal parallel trading activities at San Wan Road in Sheung Shui district.
The goods were mainly food and milk powder.
