A 48-year-old Filipino family driver was arrested on Dec. 19 for allegedly assisting his elderly employers to commit suicide inside their vehicle parked on South Bay Road near Repulse Bay Road in Aberdeen.
The Filipino, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested after the police’s preliminary investigation revealed he may have assisted his 66-year-old male employer and his 62-year-old wife to commit suicide.
The elderly man, who was found lying beside a row of drugs inside the parked Toyota Alphard car, later died at Ruttonjee Hospital. His wife regained consciousness but remains in critical condition.

According to the police, a suicide note was found, along with a plate of burnt charcoal on a hillside near the car.
Reports said the man who suffered from terminal pancreatic cancer, had collapsed at about 10 am for unknown reason. His wife had him put inside the car but instead of going to a hospital, told their driver to proceed to Repulse Bay. She then made an excuse for the driver to leave.
The female employer then started burning coal inside the car, and took medicines as well. Not long after, the driver returned and saw the couple unconscious in their car.

The driver doused the charcoal with water, then took it out of the vehicle’s compartment. He also called the couple’s nephew to tell him what had happened.
Despite all this effort, the police believe he may have assisted the couple in their suicide pact.
