Packed methamphetamine seized 2 days before the accused was arrested |
A
Filipina who was earlier charged with trafficking in one kilo of methamphetamine
(ice or shabu) was back in court today, Friday, to face a second charge of violating
her condition of stay by overstaying.

Soriano, 44 years old, was read the new charge when she appeared before Eastern
Principal Magistrate Ada Yim.
According
to the second charge, Soriano entered Hong Kong legally, and was permitted to remain
in Hong Kong only until Dec 2, 2021 but did not leave until her arrest for drug
trafficking on Jul 28, 2022.

On
that day, she was arrested at the main entrance of a building on 23-25 Third
Street, Sai Ying Pun, with the drug.
The
prosecution asked for more time to study the case and said they would continue
to oppose bail due to the huge amount of drugs involved.

The
defense lawyer said no bail application would be made and no objection raised
to adjourning the case for further legal advice.
Magistrate
Yim set the next hearing of the case to Dec 30 for mention.

Drug trafficking is a serious offence which carries the maximum penalty of $5 million in fines and life imprisonment.
