USec Lee says kids 5-11 must have received one vaccine dose by Sept 30 to use the vaccine pass |
Health authorities reported a total of 11,091 additional Covid-19 cases, the highest daily tally in nearly five months. Except for 181 imported cases, all the infections were locally acquired.
The last time a higher caseload was recorded was on Mar 24, when 13,074 new coronavirus cases were found.
Despite the increase in the infection tally, the number of patients receiving treatment at hospitals went down slightly as only 315 were admitted yesterday, compared with the 339 who had recovered and were discharged.

Joining the daily press briefing was Undersecretary for Health Dr. Libby Lee, who announced the lowering of the age requirement for the vaccine pass to five years old starting at the end of this month.
To qualify for the pass, children aged five to 11 must have received their first dose of a vaccine within the past three months. If they received their first jab three months ago or earlier, they must get the second dose to continue using the vaccine pass.
From November 30, the kids in this age group must have
already received the second dose to qualify for the vaccine pass. Those aged 12
and above must have had three jabs.
If they received a first dose then came down with the virus, they should get a second jab six months after recovery.
Those who had a second dose before getting infected are no longer required to get another shot after recovery.
However, persons aged 5 to 17 who received the more potent BioNTech vaccine are no longer required to get a second jab after recovering from Covid.
Without a vaccine pass, anyone aged 5 and above will not be allowed to enter restaurants and other places considered as high-risk such as churches, sports facilities and most government venues.

The govt plans to allow parents to add their children's vaccination record in their phones |
Lee said the government is studying how parents can save their children’s vaccination records in their LeaveHomeSafe app along with theirs. Otherwise, children without a smart phone can use their paper vaccination record.
Asked if she thought restricting the movements of unvaccinated children violated their rights, Lee said making them part of the vaccine pass will help them lead a normal life while protecting their health.
“In order to normalise their daily life, so as to maximise their opportunities to go outdoors, to increase their social activities and at the same time protect their health, the way out is to bring them for vaccination,” said Lee.

Meanwhile, Dr Larry Lee of the Hospital Authority said the 12 Covid patients whose deaths were recorded yesterday were aged between 69 and 101.
Nine deaths were directly linked to the disease and the remaining three could have been due to other chronic diseases like cancer. One of them, a 71-year-old man who had three vaccine doses, was found dead at home. He tested positive through both PCR and rapid antigen tests done at the mortuary.
A total of 2,790 patients are now being treated in public hospitals. They include 48 who are critically ill and 39 who are in serious condition.

Of the 181 imported cases, 64 were detected at the airport, 75 at quarantine hotels and 42 at community testing centres from day 4 to 7 of the patients’ arrival. A further eight were detected afterwards, likely re-positive cases.
The infected travelers came from 42 countries, of which six had more than 10 cases, including the United Kingdom, the Philippines, United States and Thailand.
The CHP reminds the public that they can call various hotlines to make enquiries on Covid-19 and they are all listed here: (www.coronavirus.gov.hk/eng/index.html#hotline).
