Health authorities reported a new four-month high in the daily coronavirus infections, with the total tally reaching 6,054 today, Thursday. It is the highest daily tally since early April.

Among the imported cases, 121 were detected at the airport, 51 during the three-day hotel quarantine, 50 during the medical surveillance period of between four and seven days, and 12 beyond this period.
Asked if the number of imported cases detected after the mandatory three-day isolation period put the community at a higher risk of infection, Dr Chuang said the figure was within expectations.
She said the infections found during medical surveillance account for only about 20% of all imported cases, and the remaining 80% are still detected either on arrival or during the mandatory three-day hotel quarantine.

Chuang also said five related deaths were recorded yesterday, raising the total death toll from the fifth wave of infections to 9,376.
