Over the next couple of days,
the temperatures will rise during the day, but it will still be cool in the

The sudden drop in temperatures is said to have been caused by an intense winter monsoon that is affecting the coast of southern China including Hong Kong.

"Elderly people have less insulating fat
beneath their skin to keep them warm and their body temperature control
mechanism may be weaker. Their body may not be able to appropriately respond to
the cold weather," the CHP said.
The Labour Department
reminded employers to take appropriate precautions, such as reminding employees
who have to work outdoors or in remote areas to keep warm.
