Indo helper charged with stealing jewelry, cash and gold from employer

Among those allegedly stolen was a Cartier watch similar to this one

A 44-year-old Indonesian domestic helper was charged with theft in Eastern Court on Tuesday, Nov 2, for allegedly stealing 22 jewelry pieces, 11 gold grains and $2,000 cash from her employer in Siu Sai Wan between Apr 1 and Oct 30. The value of the total haul was not given.

Defendant Agung P. Sariah, who has been in police custody since her arrest on Oct 31, was read the charge when she appeared before Magistrate Ada Yim.

The prosecution said the offense took place in the employer’s flat on Block 3, Island Resort, at 28 Siu Sai Wan Road in Hong Kong East. The prosecution said the stolen items included the following:  

2 gold bracelets

1 bracelet inlaid with jade

2 pairs of gold earrings,

4 gold rings,

1 gold necklace with gold pendant

Also allegedly stolen were 11 grains of gold (roughly 1 gram) and one red packet with $2,000 cash.

All the allegedly stolen articles were the property of the employer, Alice Kong Suet-kuen the prosecution said. No other details were mentioned in court and no plea was taken.

The magistrate adjourned the case for six weeks until Dec 14 as the prosecution requested more time for further investigation and legal advice.

The defendant was remanded in custody until her next court appearance.
