Villanueva was charged with ill-treatment of her baby ward |
A Filipina domestic worker faces one count of abuse or
neglect of a child after her male employer called the police on Oct 19 to
complain that his five-month-old baby son was mistreated by the helper in their
house on Dunbar Road,
Kowloon City.
A spokeswoman for the police told The SUN that after
investigation, the 42-year-old worker was charged with one count of
ill-treatment of a child.
“The case was mentioned in West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts
on Oct 23 and adjourned to Nov.15 for further enquiries,” said a police
statement. “The defendant is being remanded in custody.”
Court records identified the accused as M N Villanueva.
According to media reports, she is accused of shaking the baby boy
violently after he cried and refused to sleep. The boy’s mother allegedly heard
her son cry, and got her husband to call the police.
Villanueva’s counsel from the Duty Lawyer Scheme applied for
bail on her behalf, but was unsuccessful.
The magistrate ordered the adjournment pending a medical
report on the baby.
