A 75-year-old man who recently arrived from the United
States and a 25-year-old woman from Bangladesh who arrived last week in Hong
Kong were both reported to have tested positive for Covid-19 today, July 18.
The two imported cases were also found to carry the L452R mutant strain of the coronavirus, staff at the Centre for Health Protection said.

The elderly man, who arrived via Toronto on Air Canada flight AC015 last Friday, tested positive for the variant upon arrival.
Investigation showed he was vaccinated in the US with two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on Apr 30 and May 21, respectively.

The man, who was asymptomatic, was the fourth patient to have been found with the virus in the past few days despite receiving two full doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccines used with the three other patients were Sputnik V, Sinopharm and BioNTech.
The woman from Bangladesh is a domestic helper who arrived on Jul 14 via Qatar Airways flight QR818 from Doha, the CHP said. She was also asymptomatic when she submitted her specimen on the third day of quarantine at Silka Seaview Hotel in Yaumatei.

The two new patients took the number of cases to 11,959 in Hong Kong so far. Yesterday, no new infection, either imported or local, was reported
The CHP said there are about five preliminary positive cases that are being investigated.
Of the total of 17 cases reported in the past 14 days until yesterday, 16 were imported cases and one was an import-related case.
The Hospital Authority said as of 9am today, a total of 29 confirmed patients were being treated in nine public hospitals and the Infection Control Centre in North Lantau. One of them is in serious condition while the remaining 28 are stable.
