The stranded passengers wave a final goodbye at HK Airport |
About 10 Filipinos who were stranded at the airport on Feb 2
when their Philippine Airlines flight to Manila was canceled, managed to
finally fly home on Saturday, Feb. 6.
Seven of the passengers sought help from the Mission for Migrant
Workers as soon as they heard about the flight cancellation as they no longer
had homes to go back to while waiting for the next plane that could take them
home.
Two of the passengers were taken back temporarily by their employers,
while the rest were helped by the Mission in getting temporary accommodation
and having their flights rebooked by PAL. Two of the workers were also helped
in extending their visas.

At the PAL office earlier, where the passengers were helped in rebooking their tickets |
PAL staff at the airport had reportedly said their original
flight had to be canceled on orders from the Manila government.
When contacted by the assistance to nationals section of the Consulate,
PAL’s country head reportedly said they informed all passengers about the
cancellation days before through an email blast.
Before leaving, the stranded and homeless passengers extended
thanks to the Mission and Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge for the care and
guidance extended to them since day one of their ordeal.
