A Filipina domestic helper is facing a charge of theft in Kwun Tong Court for
allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth $79,000 from a local resident in Cheung
Sha Wan.
The defendant, R. Nisperos, appeared at past noon on
Wednesday, Feb 12, before Magistrate Joseph To for the reading of the charge.
No plea was taken as the prosecution said police were
continuing their investigation and were still to confirm the $79,000 reported
value of the stolen items.
The prosecution said the alleged theft took place between
Dec 22 last year and Feb 2 in the house of its owner, Li Chung-yin. The
prosecution did not mention the defendant’s relationship with Li.
Magistrate To adjourned the case until Mar 11 and remanded
Nisperos in custody. The next hearing will be held in West Kowloon Court in Shamshuipo, the
magistrate said.
All fresh cases and other urgent cases such as 8-day bail
reviews from all districts of Hong Kong were
heard on Feb 12 in Kwun Tong Court .
Cases were assigned to a particular court on a rotation
basis as the Judiciary has suspended most court hearings since Feb 2 as part of
the government’s efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the
community.
