A 33-year-old Filipina domestic helper has been charged in Eastern Court with stealing
jewelry from her employer valued at more than $130,000.
Jenny Lou Nualan, single, appeared before Magistrate Bina
Chainrai on Oct 3. but was not asked to enter a plea.
The prosecution said Nualan stole a Hermes watch, a
bracelet, a pair of diamond earrings and a necklace belonging to her employer
Wu Ping-yi between Apr 8, 2018 and Jan 31 this year.
The theft allegedly took place in the house of Wu at Tropicana Court in South Bay , Hong Kong Island .
Found in the helper’s possession were pawnshop receipts for
the items, indicating she had hocked them, the prosecution said.
Police are now reportedly trying to recover the stolen items
from the pawnshops, said to have been valued initially at $134,100.
A search of Hermes USA ’s website showed the price of
its ladies watched ranged between US$1,399 to US$70,000.
The prosecution said the maid’s work contract had been
terminated. She was granted police bail and is now staying with friends.
Chainrai adjourned the case until Oct 17 at the request of
the prosecution to give the police time to complete their investigation and
confirm the value of the stolen goods.
The magistrate extended Nualan’s bail and ordered her not to
leave Hong Kong, not to go to Macau or the
mainland, and report to the police from 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday.
