After months of waiting, the all-Filipina softball team,
Fate, finally received its award on May 12 for two remarkable back-to-back wins
in two tournaments organized by the Hong Kong Softball Association.
Fate first won the championship the Women’s B-Gold Division
in the Festival of Sports, an annual knock-out tournament, in May last year.
Then in July, Fate again won the championship in the B
division of the open league of the HKSA.

Fate players, along with their manager Law Wai-Ho claimed
their prizes during the awards ceremony at Tin Kwong Field in Homantin. Each
winning player received a medal, while the team got a trophy.
Fate player Myra Japitana was also given her award for Most
Valuable Player for the season during the same ceremony.
Also honored was local team Astro which received the
runner-up award for both tournaments.
Fate is the only Filipino team to have joined the HKSA. The
team is made up entirely of Filipina domestic workers who spend their only day
off in the week practicing the sport, and preparing for competitions. Many of
them were national players in the Philippines
before coming to work in Hong Kong .
